Golden Corridor Line is one of the ten GO Transit lines operating in Gravenhurst Region. It extends some-500 km distance from east to west, from Topsity - Zephyr, Gravenhurst to Parisvale, Pickering. Weekday, rush hour service only stretches from Topsity GO Station to Flanders GO Station, but the line also provides limited service to Parisvale GO Station.
The Golden Corridor Line was the oldest line in the GO Transit system. Opening in 1845, the line is now 164 years old. The first train left from West Archemedes GO Station on April 2, 1845 at 8:01 AM.
The line is the busiest out of all train lines in the system. Throughout the years, the term Golden Corridor has became to a popular culture term that refers to the urban agglomeration from Caledonia Census Agglomeration to Lisi Census Metropolitan Area. The term is also popularly used in government planning for the region. In the recent years, as the line expanded further west to Topsity, the term is now also broadly including the City of Mapleview and the City of Topsity - Zephyr.
In 2009, there had been talks that the runtime for the train line is too long, spanning over a 4-hour span from the west end to its east end. The government, and the GO Transit agency is now determining ways to shorten travel time. This may involve the splitting of the line. The line might be split into two to decrease runtime.
The line makes connection with Gravenhurst Regional Transit, Pickering Transit, Mapleview Transit, and Topsity Transit Commission.
Currently, there are plans to extend the service to Claireville.
